Catherine Condon was born at Flemingstown on 19 April 1874. Her civil birth entry names Patrick Condon of Flemingstown and Mary Condon, formerly Ryan, as her parents. Patrick was a labourer and reported the birth himself: "Patrick Condon Father Flemingstown." This is the first preserved Condon record placing the household at Flemingstown.
Our family tree identifies Catherine as the wife of David Fitzgerald and assigns four children to them: Margaret, Mary, David, and John Joseph. A later city directory lists "Fitzgerald David (Cath) lab h200 18th," meaning a labourer named David Fitzgerald and a Catherine shared a home at 200 18th Street. The terse entry does not state Catherine's maiden name, so it does not by itself prove the marriage.
A New Jersey death index contains "FITZGERALD CATHERINE" with codes ending "02 61," indicating an entry in February 1961. The index does not give a day or identify her parents or husband. A marriage certificate, censuses, immigration record, and death certificate are needed before the Cork child and the New Jersey woman can be treated as the same person.

United States census, 1920, Jersey City Ward 10, enumeration district 223, sheet 13B, household 296. David Fitzgerald, 42, head, born Ireland, arrived 1897; Catherine, 42, wife, born Ireland; and three children born in New Jersey — Margaret 9, Mary 7 and John 6. Her age of 42 implies a birth about 1878, against her documented Flemingstown birth of 19 April 1874; stated ages in American censuses run loose and the register is the better record.

Entered as Catherine Fitegerald, 76, born Ireland, in the household of her son-in-law John J. Finn. An age of 76 in April 1950 points to a birth in 1873 or 1874, which agrees with her Flemingstown birth register. She was still at 542 Bergen Avenue when she died eleven years later.

- [NOW DOCUMENTED] Her baptism, **20 April 1874 at Ballindangan**, names Patrick Condon and Mary Ryan outright. The link had been flagged *compiled* — unchecked — with **fifty-one people hanging below it**, which made it the most load-bearing unverified link in the archive.
- [THE TWO RECORDS AGREE TO A DAY] Her **civil birth** is registered at **Flemingstown on 19 April 1874** and her **baptism** is at **Ballindangan on 20 April 1874** — the child registered one day and christened the next, which is exactly how it went. The two records were found separately, years apart, and each names Patrick Condon and Mary Ryan. Together they also tie the civil townland of Flemingstown to the chapel at Ballindangan, which is what makes the 1911 census household at Ballindangan so likely to be her father's.

It had been suggested that Catherine might belong to the Condons of Cullane, Galbally district, County Limerick — the same townland as the Fitzgeralds she married into — rather than to the Flemingstown family. Her own birth register settles it: born at Flemingstown to Patrick Condon, labourer, and Mary Ryan. The Cullane Condons are a different family.
- The family's registration geography is now precise. Cullane, Ballylanders sits in the **Galbally** registrar's district, **County Limerick**, inside the **Mitchelstown** Poor Law Union. Flemingstown, where Catherine Condon was born, is in the same **Mitchelstown union**. An earlier note in this archive described the Fitzgeralds and Condons as families 'twenty miles apart in different counties' — that overstated the distance. Both were inside one union, which makes the marriage an ordinary local one. Galbally had never been searched before August 2026 because it was absent from the district lists used.
- RESOLVED in part. Her death place, '542 Bergen Avenue', was carried with the jurisdiction unverified. The 1950 census puts her in her daughter Margaret's household at house number 542 in Jersey City, which makes Jersey City the jurisdiction and the address a family home rather than an institution. The census sheet records the house number without the street, so the identification rests on the number, the city, the household and the eleven-year interval agreeing — strong, but one step short of the street being written down.
- [RESOLVED IN PART] Her death date of 5 February 1961 is now confirmed by her memorial, where the statewide index had given only February. Her burial place — Holy Cross, North Arlington, Block 4 Section A Grave 81 — was unknown until today. Where she **died** is still the older question: '542 Bergen Avenue' with the jurisdiction argued from the 1950 census rather than written on a record.
