Mary Condon
This entry is about Mary Condon (Born 11 July 1878; death not recorded). For other family members with the same first and family name, see Mary Cashin Condon (Dates not recorded), Mary Condon (1855 – 1918), Mary Condon (Born 1882; death not recorded).
Born 11 July 1878; death not recorded
Daughter of Patrick Condon and Mary Ryan; probably the later Mary O’Connor, though the marriage index does not give parents or age. Mary was the youngest child presently proved by civil registration. A 1907 New Jersey index supplies the long-sought Condon–O’Connor pairing, but a fuller certificate is needed to close the identity chain. The “mary condon, born 1882 Ireland, spouse Patrick O’Connor” entry is probably a duplicate of the documented Mary born 11 July 1878, not a separate person.
Partly proved
Mary Condon was born at Flemingstown, County Cork, on 11 July 1878; she may be the Mary Condon who married Patrick O'Connor in New Jersey in 1907.

Life
Mary Condon was born at Flemingstown on 11 July 1878, the youngest child of Patrick Condon and Mary Ryan presently proved by civil registration. Her entry names "Patrick Condon Flemingstown" and "Mary Condon formerly Ryan," calls Patrick a "Labourer," and records "Mary Condon her mark Mother Flemingstown" as informant.
A New Jersey marriage index pairs "CONDON MARY" with "OCONNOR PATRICK" in 1907. The index gives no parents, age, or birthplace, so it does not complete the identity chain. A separate family-tree entry describes a Mary Condon born in Ireland in 1882 as Patrick O'Connor's wife. That entry may duplicate the documented child born in 1878, but the conflicting year and lack of a full marriage certificate mean the entries should not yet be formally merged.
No arrival, census, child, death, or burial record in this archive establishes Mary's life after her Irish birth.
How we know this: Strong for her 1878 birth; the proposed 1907 marriage and duplicate 1882 entry remain unproved. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]

Born
New Jersey index pairs “CONDON MARY” with “OCONNOR PATRICK” in 1907. A Mary Condon with the documented family was born 11 July 1878 at Flemingstown; a Mary Condon married Patrick O’Connor in New Jersey in 1907. The reported 1882 birth is not established. Father a labourer; mother registered the birth by mark. The Irish birth and New Jersey marriage fit the same family narrative, while our family tree's 1882 date conflicts with the civil birth. The safest website treatment is one provisional entry with the conflict exposed. [2]

Birth registered
Her birth was registered at Mitchelstown on 24 July 1878 by her mother, Mary Condon formerly Ryan, who could not write and made her mark. Her father Patrick is entered as a labourer of Flemingstown. As written: “Mary ✗ Condon, her mark, Mother, Flemingstown”

Mary Condon–Patrick O’Connor marriage-index lead
New Jersey state file 21 496 pairs a Mary Condon with Patrick O’Connor. The index gives no parents, age, birthplace, day or municipality, so neither the 1878 nor the about-1882 profile is identified as the bride. [5]

What we still don't know
- Full 1907 marriage certificate
- Whether she married Patrick O'Connor
- Whether the 1882 entry is a duplicate
- Immigration, censuses, children, death, and burial
- [BAPTISED A MONTH BEFORE SHE WAS BORN] A baptism for her is indexed at Ballindangan on 12 June 1878, while her civil registration gives her birth at Flemingstown on 11 July 1878. A baptism cannot precede a birth. Read as 12 July it falls the day after the birth — the same interval, in the same chapel, as her sister Catherine in 1874. The month is the likely error. This baptism was not among the six the archive had recorded from this family's parish set; there were seven children in the register all along.
- [THE HYBRID IS GONE] A third record, `mary-o-connor-1878`, used to assert that this woman was Patrick O'Connor's wife — carrying her birth date, her parents and his marriage together. It has been merged into the wife's record, `mary-condon-1882`, with the parent link dropped. This page and that one remain deliberately separate, as they were always meant to be, until the 1907 certificate proves or disproves the join.
- [FROM THE REGISTER] She was born at Flemingstown on 11 July 1878, and her mother Mary Ryan came in herself to register her, signing with a mark. Her father is entered as a labourer.
- [FOUR MARYS IN ONE COUNTY IN ONE YEAR] Three other Mary Condons were born in County Cork in 1878, and all three register images have now been read and excluded: 15 September at Ballyhooly, to Michael Condon and Catherine Kelleher; 10 August at Slieveadoctor, to John Condon and Margaret Roche; and 15 November at Inchinanough, to a second John Condon and Johanna Barry. Two of the four fathers were called John Condon and neither was ours — this archive's John Condon was a labourer and had been dead thirteen years. It is the plainest available illustration of why this surname in this county resists proof, and it is the reason the Flemingstown entry naming Patrick Condon and Mary Ryan is the one kept.
- Marriage certificate, arrival, censuses, children and death.
- Obtain the 1907 certificate and census/immigration evidence before formally merging.
- Do not merge `mary-condon-1878` with `mary-condon-1882` or assign Patrick O’Connor from the birth row; obtain a marriage certificate naming Patrick Condon and Mary Ryan.
- [CONFLICT] Preserve both birth readings: the record-backed Flemingstown Mary was born 11 July 1878; the separate O’Connor-spouse profile estimates about 1882. The profiles are not merged.
