Life
Mary Ryan was born about 1843 if the age on her marriage record was accurate. The record calls her "Mary Ryan," although our family tree also styles her Mary B. Ryan. No original record in this archive supplies the middle initial. She was the daughter of James Ryan, a labourer; her mother is not identified by the marriage record.
On 7 September 1865 Mary married Patrick Condon at the Roman Catholic Chapel of Castlelyons. She was recorded as "22 years," a "Spinster," and "resident with her Parents" at Coole. Patrick was a 25-year-old bachelor and labourer of Maghna.
The children's registrations follow the household from Maghna to Moherna, Rathcarrig, and Flemingstown. Mary reported Margaret's birth at Maghna in 1868. She is named as "Mary Condon formerly Ryan" throughout the later entries and reported James's 1876 and Mary's 1878 births at Flemingstown, making her mark on both records. Six children—Margaret, Ellen, Hanna, Catherine, James, and Mary—are supported by the preserved civil registrations. Bridget and Johanna are additional family-tree children whose matching civil births have not been proved.
The family information recorded here contains duplicate versions of Mary's entry and also assigns her a daughter in a separate Staffordshire–Canadian branch. Those entries should not be treated as separate wives or as proof of that other branch. A reported death in 1918 is likewise unconfirmed; Mary's death and burial remain unknown.

They were married at the Roman Catholic chapel of Castlelyons on 7 September 1865 by Fr Daniel McSwiney, P.P. Patrick was 25, a bachelor and labourer of Maghera; Mary was 22, a spinster resident with her parents at Coole. Neither could write: both made a cross where a signature belonged. The witnesses, Edmond Smythe and Anne Wynne, signed their own names.

- [CANDIDATE WEAKENED] A Mary Ryan baptised at **Castlelyons on 18 September 1840** to a James Ryan and Cate Brown was noted earlier as a candidate. Her age of 22 in September 1865 puts her birth about **1843**, not 1840, so the candidate is now three years out rather than possibly right. Kept in the rolodex, downgraded.
