Person in this family

William Leahey

This entry is about William Leahey (Dates not recorded). For other family members with the same first and family name, see William Leahey (Born about 1898; death not recorded).

Dates not recorded

William Leahey was a son of James D. Leahey and Barbara Brennan. He married a woman whose surname was Bender and whose given name the family notices never printed — she appears here as "[unnamed] Bender", which is exactly as much as the record supports. He may not be a separate person. He came into this archive from the family tree and has no sources at all. Find a Grave's list of Barbara Brennan's children does not include him — it gives a James Francis Leahey, 1911–1983, in the birth-order slot he would occupy, and that James is buried in Barbara's own grave at Holy Cross, where no William Leahey is buried at all. Both men are kept here and neither has been merged away.

Historical context

These background articles explain the places, work, and events in this entry.

What we still don't know

  • [PRIVACY FLAG CORRECTED] This person was marked as possibly living, which suppressed everything about them. Nothing in their record refers to any year after 1887, so they cannot be alive: even somebody born in that year would be over a hundred and ten now. The flag was a default that had never been revisited, and it was hiding a nineteenth-century person as though they were a contemporary.
  • [IS HE JAMES FRANCIS LEAHEY?] The children of James D. Leahey and Barbara Brennan run 1905, 1907, 1909, ?, 1913. Find a Grave fills the gap with James Francis, born 14 May 1911, and this archive fills it with a William who has no dates and no sources. A search of Holy Cross by cemetery found eleven Leahey burials and no William among them. What is on this page and not on James's is a marriage: William is said to have married a woman surnamed Bender, from the family's death notices. If that notice can be found again it will decide the matter, because it would be a contemporary printed source naming a William. Nothing has been merged, renamed or deleted. See James Francis Leahey.
  • [A LEAD, AND ONLY A LEAD] The New Jersey death index for 1965 carries a LEAHEY WILLIAM, certificate 22674, May 1965. There is no reason yet to think it is this man. Its registration-district code is 0411/0421, where every Bayonne death on these pages — George Edward Leahey's, Julia Veronica Leahey's, Marian Murphy's — carries 0905. So if it is him he died away from Bayonne. Recorded so the row is not re-found and mistaken for a discovery.
