Born at Cahirtrant in the parish of Ventry, County Kerry, on 5 October 1900, the eldest recorded son of John Fitzgerald, a farmer of Cahirtrant, and Bridget Fitzgerald, whose maiden name was also Fitzgerald. His mother registered the birth on 6 December and could not write, making her mark. He married Mary O'Shea and died on 14 September 1971.

- [CORRECTED] His birth year was carried here as 1901 on the family tree's word. The civil register gives 5 October 1900. The registration date of 6 December 1900 and a later baptism are the likeliest sources of the drift; the page id still reads 1901 because ids are not renamed once public.
- [CONFLICT] The 1932 marriage register is an original document and is a strong match: Fahan in Ventry is Mary O'Shea's own recorded townland, the groom is a John Fitzgerald whose father was a farmer named John Fitzgerald, and the district is Dingle. But this archive carries their son Patrick as born on 26 February 1930, two years before the wedding. That date is tree-supplied and unsourced, while the marriage is read from the register — so the likeliest reading is that Patrick's date is wrong. It cannot be tested: the Irish birth index is published only to 1926 under the hundred-year rule, so no birth of any of these ten children can be checked online. Both readings are kept.
