Patrick Farrelly was a farmer at Clara, County Cavan. On 8 May 1879 he married Margaret Boyle of Gartbratten at Miltown chapel; the marriage register names his father as Andrew Farrelly, farmer. He died at Clara on 10 June 1927 aged 70, of bronchitis, with his son Patrick present at the death. His age implies a birth about 1857, consistent with his being of full age at his marriage.

Our family tree presents Patrick Farrelly as the husband of Margaret Boyle and father of Andrew Joseph Farrelly and several other Farrelly or Farley children. The same family information recorded here also places Margaret Boyle in Patrick’s parent list, an internal contradiction that prevents the relationships from being accepted at face value.
One original birth record elsewhere in this archive does name “Patrick Farrelly” as the father of Andrew, born on 10 July 1880, and calls him a farmer; Andrew’s mother was “Margaret Farrelly formerly Boyle.” That record supports Patrick and Margaret as Andrew’s parents. It does not by itself confirm all the other children attributed to them. Patrick’s own birth, marriage, residence, and death remain undocumented here.

Positive controls in the same corpus include “Owen Farrelly,” “Farrelly | Bernard | Kilsob,” and ordinary Boyle and Reilly entries, so surname matching worked. [NEGATIVE] Research audit: 3,729 Templeport baptism rows were parsed; Boyle appeared only twice as a positive surname control; no Patrick Farrelly–Margaret Boyle couple and no 1880 Farrelly baptism appeared. This is a controlled Templeport-register negative, not evidence about Kildallen parish.

- [FROM THE REGISTER] He married at **Miltown chapel, Killeshandra**, on 8 May 1879, of full age, a **farmer** of **Clara**, son of **Andrew Farrelly, farmer**. **He signed his own name**, and so did his bride.
- This record appears to combine two people of the same name from different generations (it listed itself as its own childre). They have not been separated because no record yet distinguishes them.
- [SEPARATION] Patrick senior is the adult father in the 1880–1884 births; the separate 1889 child Patrick must not be merged with him merely because they share a name.
- The NLI catalog shows Kildallan/Tomregan baptism coverage from 15 April 1867 to 30 March 1881, encompassing Andrew’s birth. The catalog is only a search lead and does not prove that his baptism is present.
- [NEGATIVE] The Bawnboy/Templeport corpus and all 13 workhouse death registers produced Farrelly controls but no record naming Patrick with Margaret Boyle, Clara or a known child.
- [CONFLICT/SEARCH GUIDANCE] This family crosses jurisdictions: Andrew’s civil birth is Bawnboy superintendent district/Ballyconnell registrar’s area; baptism is Kildallen parish; the marriage is Cavan superintendent district/Killeshandra registrar’s area at Miltown chapel. Searching one district only will miss records; this is boundary guidance, not a contradiction.
