Alice M. Stilwell was born in New Jersey about 1837, a daughter of Henry Stilwell and Cornelia Brokaw of Somerset County. She married twice. By 1876 she was already the widow of a Wilson, and on 23 November that year, at Manhattan, she married William White, 42, born in Ireland. She died a widow again, at 302 West 25th Street, Manhattan, on 19 January 1906, and was buried at New Brunswick — where her sister Leah had been buried seventeen years before, and where her mother would follow eighteen months later.

What we still don't know
- [WHICH NEW BRUNSWICK CEMETERY?] Her burial is recorded as New Brunswick, 22 January 1906, with no cemetery named. Her mother Cornelia is documented at Elmwood Cemetery, North Brunswick, Section E, Lot 33, and the natural reading is that the family lot holds her too. It is not proved. Find a Grave has no memorial for her, and holds no Mayer at all in that cemetery. The interment card for Section E, Lot 33 would settle it in one request to the cemetery office.
- Her first husband, the Wilson. She is already his widow in 1876 and nothing else about him is known — not his given name, not the marriage, not his death.
- [THREE GENERATIONS IN ONE GROUND] The women of this family were buried within a mile of each other over eighteen years, at the Brunswicks in Middlesex County: Leah Adelaine Stillwell at New Brunswick in February 1889, brought back from Manhattan where she died; her sister Alice at New Brunswick in January 1906, brought back from Manhattan too; and their mother Cornelia at Elmwood Cemetery, North Brunswick, in July 1907. Two daughters came home from New York to be buried and their mother followed eighteen months after the second. Whether all three are in Elmwood is not established — the two daughters' records say only 'New Brunswick' — and if they are, it is one plot holding three generations of this line.
- [POSSIBLE DUPLICATE] She may be the Cornelia aged 11 in her parents' 1850 household, born about 1839. Her own two records imply 1837 and 1839–40. Kept separate until something decides it.
- Which cemetery at New Brunswick, and whether the family lie together.
