Michael Joseph Cawley was born in New York on 5 March 1911 and died in Manhattan on 5 August 1921, aged ten years and five months. He had been ill for three years: the certificate gives the cause as cardiac dilatation with rheumatic endocarditis contributing, of three years' duration — rheumatic fever having damaged his heart when he was about seven. He was buried at Calvary Cemetery three days later.

- [NEGATIVE, USEFUL] He is not buried with his cousin Helen Bridget Farley. Helen died six weeks earlier and went to St Raymond's in the Bronx; Michael Joseph went to Calvary in Queens. The two Cooney sisters who had married in Manhattan used different burial grounds, so the tempting idea that the one bought a grave the other's child was laid in does not hold.
