• [THE ALTERNATIVE IS NOW AN ORIGINAL RECORD, NOT AN INDEX ROW] The Castlelyons baptism of Patrick, son of John Condon and Margaret Murphy, 13 May 1838 has been read from the register image itself at the National Library of Ireland. Whatever it finally proves, the comparison is no longer between a documented Mary Cashin and a hypothetical Margaret Murphy. It is between a Mary Cashin who appears in one derivative index quote and nowhere else, and a Margaret Murphy written into the parish register in 1838.
• [THE SEARCH INVERTED, AND A NAMED ALTERNATIVE] Every previous attempt looked for Mary Cashin and could only ever fail. On 8 August 2026 the search was turned round: instead of hunting the wife, hunt the children in the parish where the family is documented, and read the mother's name off whatever comes back. Patrick Condon married at the chapel of Castlelyons in 1865 and lived at Maghna in that parish, so Castlelyons is where his baptism should be. Five John Condon households appear there between 1830 and 1855, and their wives are Margaret Murphy, Margaret Cronin, Johanna Cotter, Mary Moynahan and Margaret Joyce. Not one of them is Mary Cashin. Exactly one Patrick Condon was baptised at Castlelyons in the plausible window: 13 May 1838, to John Condon and Margaret Murphy. The same couple have a Margaret baptised 21 April 1833 and a James on 4 June 1842. This is a candidate and not a proof — see the age problem on Patrick's page — but it is the first time this archive has had a named alternative rather than an absence.
• He was a labourer and he was dead by 7 September 1865, both from his son's marriage register, read from the image on 9 August 2026. The form has a column for the father's name and rank and none for the mother's, which is why no record has ever named his wife — and why the Mary Cashin attached to him here rests on nothing.
• The 1865 marriage does not name Patrick’s mother and cannot prove Mary Cashin as John’s wife or Patrick’s mother; obtain a baptism naming both parents or John and Mary’s marriage.
• Mary Cashin remains an unproved compiled wife/mother claim: the 1865 row has no mother-of-the-groom field and names only John Condon deceased.
