Historical context

These background articles explain the places, work, and events in this entry.

What we still don't know

  • Her husband's given name, their marriage, and her death. The Social Security file gives her married surname and nothing else about him.
  • Her husband's given name. Two records give the surname Jones and neither gives more; the marriage itself has not been found.
  • [COINCIDENCE, RECORDED NOT CLAIMED] Two generations later her great-niece **Ruth S Mayer** married **Howard Graham Jones Jr.** A Mayer married a Jones in or before 1917 and a Mayer married a Jones in the 1950s. Jones is one of the commonest surnames in the country and nothing whatever connects the two families. It is written down only so that it is not rediscovered from scratch, and so that if a given name ever attaches to this Jones it can be tested against Howard Graham Jones and Anna Bateman.
  • Her death of 29 January 1963 is tree-supplied and unverified. Her Social Security record would confirm it.
