John Andrew Brokaw

1804 – 1893

John Andrew Brokaw, 1804 to 1893, was a son of Abraham Caleb Brokaw and Mariah Stryker and an elder brother of **Cornelia**. The Find a Grave biography of his sister lists a **John** among the children, and a Geni chart names him with dates — two secondary sources, independent of one another, agreeing. His descendants run William B Brokaw (1848–1914), Ernest Franklin Brokaw (1878–1952) and Paul Ely Brokaw Sr (1904–1980), and through them to the actress **Monica Potter**, who is Gina Cacace's fifth cousin once removed.

Historical context

These background articles explain the places, work, and events in this entry.

What we still don't know

  • Everything about his own life. Two trees give his dates and nothing else; no record here supports them.
  • Whether he was one of the seven children taken to Ohio in 1823 or one of the three left in New Jersey. He would have been about nineteen.
  • His descendants are deliberately **not** built out here. The line to Monica Potter runs through people who are living, and this archive does not publish them.
