The pursuit

The pet, belonging to a woman identified imperfectly by the surviving text as Mrs. Otis E. B— of an unreadable avenue, was again seen swinging through trees behind 225 Atlantic Avenue. A hook-and-ladder crew from Independent Engine Company had failed to catch it there on Saturday. Fire Chief James W. Pierce sent the company back, but firefighters did not see it on the return visit. Pierce wanted it caught before it bit a child and predicted that colder weather would eventually bring the animal down.
