The congregation’s own account begins with organizers asking local households whether they wanted a Baptist church.
A canvass before a congregation
The centennial history dates the effort to December 3, 1950. Samuel Jeanes, Edward Cuthbert, Harry Moore and Albert F. Simpkins Sr. went from house to house to ask about establishing a church. The firehouse supplied a meeting place
The first meeting took place at the Medford Farms firehouse, according to the account. It dates the first baptismal ceremony to June 3, 1951. A volunteer-service building thus served another purpose while the congregation took shape. Centennial account.
The anniversary account has limits
The text later describes pamphlets and personal invitations as continuing forms of outreach. It does not supply the original canvass responses, minutes or a count of the first congregation.
