Investigators traced a large Ocean County wildfire to a bonfire; the charging announcement and subsequent court reporting describe different stages.
The first smoke and the investigators’ account
On April 22, 2025, Cedar Bridge Fire Tower spotted smoke near Jones and Bryant roads. Responders found fire in the Forked River Mountains Wilderness Area.
Two days later, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said investigators used GPS to plot the origin and attributed ignition to an improperly extinguished bonfire. Joseph Kling was charged with arson offenses. Prosecutors alleged he burned wooden pallets and left before the fire was extinguished.
The later courtroom position
Jersey Shore Online’s April 22, 2026 account reported that the criminal cases remained unresolved. It described Kling’s April 6 court appearance and a separate juvenile proceeding. A charging announcement is not a conviction; the adult defendant was presumed innocent.
No subsequent verified disposition was located during the September 7 research check. This entry preserves the dated allegations and court status without presenting the prosecution’s ignition narrative as an adjudicated finding against an individual.
