Planning and construction

A Cinnaminson Planning Board report dated June 18 says the board approved 92 additional Wellington Park houses by Cornell Development Company, part of 122 homes approved across two projects. In the same meeting it approved the proposed Riverton Country Club site at Highland Avenue and Davis Road, required the entrance opposite Villinger Avenue, and recorded presentations by Jules Heydrick and attorney Alex Feinberg. Board chairman Dewees Showell and Mrs. Paul Betancourt abstained as club members. A separate Richard J. Serfling proposal concerned a Route 130 workshop and is not part of Wellington Park.

Coverage placed Wellington Park on the Riverton–Moorestown Road about half a mile east of Route 130. Cornell’s Mr. German said large shade trees were retained. Models included the Arlington split-level, a stone-front split-level, and a ranch; features advertised included a patio, basement, fireplace/rotisserie, dishwasher, and disposal. Stewart Associates handled sales. Prices vary by clipping and phase: one ad gives $21,950–$24,950, another $22,500 upward, and a regional home guide says from $23,600. A want ad sought experienced framing and piece-work carpenters at the Wellington Park field office.

Drainage dispute

Resident spokesman Theodore Kostos later asked the Planning Board to investigate flooding and drainage. Showell promised a study, an executive session including two resident observers, and a March 21 public hearing. The request followed a contentious January 25 meeting at which Wellington Park residents objected to Cornell receiving permission for five model homes on the former Campbell Soup farm along Moorestown–Riverton Road before existing drainage problems were solved. The board nevertheless approved those models. It also recommended limits on township service stations.
