Carol Ann Hill: Wildwood's open 1970 homicide

Listed as an open homicide in the prosecutor's 2021 report · Later status unverified

The Cape May County Prosecutor's Office includes Carol Ann Hill's June 8, 1970, Wildwood case in its published list of open homicides.

A case still on the county's list

The Cape May County Prosecutor's Office 2021 annual report lists “Carol Ann Hill on 6/8/1970 Wildwood 70-266” among its open homicide cases. The office also listed her case in earlier annual reports. That identifies the person, municipality, case date and status as of the report; it does not describe the crime scene, her final movements or the current investigation.

The case index places the discovery beneath Hunt's Pier and gives a more detailed narrative. Those specifics need confirmation from an original 1970 newspaper page or investigative record before this archive treats them as established. A pier or boardwalk location is not being added to the exploration map as a crime-scene destination.

Research path

June 9–23, 1970, editions of the Courier-Post, Philadelphia Daily News and Asbury Park Press are the immediate contemporary newspaper trail. Original reporting could test the location, last confirmed sighting and witness accounts in later retellings. A newer prosecutor statement would establish whether the case remains open after 2021. Similarity to another shore crime, by itself, cannot establish a shared perpetrator.
