FACTORY ARCHITECTURE / ESTIMATED GEOMETRY

Around the
differential.

A hollow open-front banjo housing and hollow axle tubes replace the solid central sphere. A separate front carrier, gasket, eight fixing references, pinion flange/seal and two toothless side-gear boundaries connect the existing driveline studies.

Estimated reference, not fitted axle identification

Factory plates support these component boundaries. Every new size, station, hole pattern and shell contour is an estimate. Existing rear track, wheel-end datums and the propeller-shaft flange drawing endpoint are retained. No axle ratio, casting version, hypoid offset, spline engagement or installed clearance is established.

Factory evidence and configuration limits

Factory shared rear-axle plate 146 shows the front-removable carrier, housing, 2A7027 gasket, eight carrier studs and two side gears. It distinguishes disc-wheel and wire-wheel cases and lists a case revision from GAN6-182001. This reference does not select a fitted case version from the car’s year alone.

Plate 147 separates pinion bearings, spacer, 88G320 seal, dust cover and ATA7056 universal-joint flange. The separate pinion-support comparison now distinguishes shaft/bearing/spacer/depth-washer/dust/retention roles. An independent cage/crown-wheel/side-support comparison adds the remaining large boundaries, without actual teeth or working gear mesh. Ratios shown on the shared plate are not applied to this car.

Drawing connections

BoundaryConstruction choice and uncertainty
Housing / carrier165 mm outer and 159 mm inner spherical radii provide a hollow banjo approximation. An open circular front joint has eight estimated holes on a 312 mm PCD. The 0.5 mm gasket and matching faces are drawing choices, not fitted compression, casting contours or drilling dimensions.
Axle tubes / half-shaftsTube outer/inner radii remain 32/22 mm and their ends retain the old wheel-end stations. Tips now extend to ±40 mm after an explicitly unmeasured50 mm inward extension; toothless gear boundaries move to ±40…68 mm for the estimated cage end-wall relationship. Their 11.5 mm bores are geometric boundaries, not splines or measured engagement.
Carrier / pinion flangeA hollow taper and four exterior web cues distinguish the carrier from the housing. The pinion flange shares the existing propeller-shaft drawing face and its estimated four-hole 70 mm PCD. The inherited centered pinion axis is unverified; actual hypoid offset and flange alignment are unresolved.
Surrounding obstaclesExisting leaf springs, clamps, dampers, straps, tank and exhaust references remain available in the combined view. No suspension travel, tank clearance, carrier sweep or loaded axle registration is verified.

Workshop use and missing internals

Isolate the housing to inspect the open carrier mouth and through-axle passages. Select the carrier, gasket or pinion flange independently to understand the joints. The two side-gear envelopes mark where the half-shafts end; the cage and smooth crown-wheel/side-bearing/cap boundaries now have a native comparison. Exact pinion/crown-wheel teeth, planet internals and bearing adjustments remain unmodeled.

Display separation is not a service procedure

The exploded view separates reference groups to expose geometry. It does not verify half-shaft withdrawal distance, carrier release, pinion-flange removal, bearing preload, fastener access, support points or a safe replacement path. Fitted identification and the applicable workshop procedure remain necessary before a removal rehearsal can be trusted.
