Person in this family

Marie F Mark

Born about 1890; death not recorded

Marie F. Mark was born about 1890 and is recorded as a wife of August William Mayer, who was born in 1907 — seventeen years after her. Two children, Alice and William Francis, are attached to the pair. The age gap and the children's dates together suggest she was a later wife whose children came from an earlier marriage, rather than the mother of August's children, but nothing yet proves it either way.

  • [CONFLICT — LIKELY MIS-ASSEMBLED] This archive records **August William Mayer (b. 1 February 1907)** as the father of **Alice (b. about 1923)** and **William Francis (b. 14 October 1925)** by **Marie F. Mark (b. 1890)**. The arithmetic does not work comfortably: August would have been **sixteen** and **eighteen**, and Marie was **seventeen years older than him**. His documented marriage is to Florence Selig, by whom Joan (1934) and Ruth (1936) fit his age exactly. The likeliest readings are that Marie was a later wife and Alice and William were her children by an earlier marriage — that is, his stepchildren — or that these two belong to a different Mayer altogether. **No relationship has been deleted**, because nothing yet disproves any of them; but none of the four pages now states the parentage as fact. A New York marriage record for August and Marie, or birth certificates for Alice and William naming their father, would settle it.
