Person in this family
Anna E. Leahey
This entry is about Anna E. Leahey (1874 – 1894). For other family members with the same first and family name, see Anna Leahey (Born about 1905; death not recorded), Anna Meaney Leahey (Dates not recorded).
1874 – 1894
ANNA E. 1874 — 1894 is the first name cut on the Leahey headstone at Holy Name Cemetery, above Ellen T., Dennis C. and Anna M. Wallace. She died at about twenty. She is not in this archive under any other name, and she is deliberately entered here with no parents attached. She is a strong candidate for one of the six unidentified children of Dennis Leahey and Ann Galvin — the gap this archive has been trying to fill for a long time. The family's own known children leave room at about 1873, and she lies on a Leahey stone in the family's cemetery. But she died in 1894, three years before Dennis C. married Ellen, so she cannot be their daughter, and nothing on the stone says whose daughter she was.

Historical context
These background articles explain the places, work, and events in this entry.
What we still don't know
- Whose daughter was she? Dying in 1894 aged about twenty, she predates Dennis C. Leahey's 1897 marriage, so she is not his child. A sister of his — and so one of Dennis Leahey and Ann Galvin's six unidentified children — is the obvious reading and is not proved.
- A New Jersey death record for an Anna Leahey of 1894, or the Holy Name interment card for Block N Section A Grave 25, would name her parents and could close one of the archive's oldest questions.
