John Noga was named as Ruth Noga's father on her 1927 Brooklyn marriage record. **He is very probably an error.** The 1915 New York State census, taken when Ruth was six and living at home, names her father as **Julius E. Noga** — and a John Noga of the same Brooklyn family was separately tested and rejected, his death record giving him as single. There *was* a John Noga in that household, born about 1886, a brother of Julius; the marriage clerk may simply have written the wrong brother's name, or the indexer misread. This record is kept rather than deleted because the marriage register does say John.

- Whether they really are Ruth's parents. The marriage index names them without stating a relationship, and this archive has already tested and **rejected** one John Noga of Brooklyn — born about 1885 to Charles Noga and Agnes Kluska, both Polish-born — as the wrong man. The record that would settle it is Ruth's own New York City birth certificate, about 1908-09.
- Why Ruth was living as a **niece** in another household in 1920, aged twelve, rather than with them. That household's head has never been identified.
- [SUPERSEDED] Ruth's father is now identified as Julius E. Noga from the 1915 state census. This record survives only because the 1927 marriage register names a John.
