George H. Stillwell
1873 – 1916
George was born in 1873 to William H. Stilwell and Rebecca Rooks. His father died in 1878, when he was five, and he was adopted by his aunt Jane and her husband George Liddell of Perth Amboy — the 1880 census lists him in their house as 'adopted son' and the 1885 state census as George S. Liddel. He later took back the name Stillwell. He died in 1916. He is a grandson of Henry Stilwell and Cornelia Brokaw. From the volunteer-written biography on Cornelia Brokaw's Find a Grave memorial (src-951), not from a record this archive has read. Recorded so it can be tested.

What we still don't know
- [CONFIRMED FROM A RECORD] He is George S Liddell, aged 5 to 20, in the 1885 New Jersey state census of Perth Amboy Ward 1, in George and Jane Liddell's house — living under his adoptive name twelve years after his birth as a Stilwell and thirty-one years before he died as one.
- Everything, from records rather than a biography — a birth about 1873, the 1880 and 1885 census entries, and a death in 1916.
- Why he changed back. He was entered as a Liddel as a boy and died a Stillwell; the moment he resumed his father's name is the kind of thing a marriage or a naturalisation would date.
