Audited ten people/crime entry pages: Mob Murder (1941), Katie Woods (1895), Atsion Rifle Murder (1945), Quicklime Body (1935), Emilio Carranza (1928), Carol Ann Hill (1970), Jan Andre Cotta (1973), Shamong skeletal remains (1979), Robert Korman (1972), and Unidentified (2013). Most already preserved useful source limits. The Morey entry had a material year ambiguity and no issue-level citation.
Finding and change
A digitized Philadelphia Inquirer page dated Tuesday morning, July 24, 1945, reports that Grace Morey, 22, had been fatally shot “yesterday” in a cottage at Atsion Lake and that Oscar Morey, 39, was critically wounded. This establishes July 23, 1945 and resolves the entry’s stray “1942” note. The report says autopsy findings challenged Oscar’s reported first statement that Grace had shot him; it also says he was too critical to question further. The revised entry therefore identifies the date and location while describing the shooting as unresolved. It does not assign responsibility or state a legal outcome.
Source and limits
- The Philadelphia Inquirer, July 24, 1945, digitized page hosted by Wenonah Historical Society. The newspaper date and “yesterday” reference support the event date. The scan is a full-page image and its OCR has errors; details beyond the legible report should be checked against the image. The two other clippings in the entry’s source packet remain undated and lack mastheads.
