Round Eight — Pin Precision Pass (2026-09-12)

Scope: upgrade pins previously downgraded for want of a lookup (rate-limiting or missed name variants), and attempt to locate several long-unplaced Pine Barrens places. Only entries-a-f.json, entries-g-n.json, entries-o-z.json, and forum-places.json in research/locations/ were touched, plus this log.

Nominatim confirmed responsive this session (/status returned OK) before any retries; no 429s were encountered on any query below, so failures recorded as “no result” are genuine empty results, not rate-limiting.

Task 1 — retry rate-limit / lookup-starved downgrades

Upgraded

  • Paulsdale (Alice Paul Birthplace), Mount Laurel (alice-paul-paulsdale, entries-a-f.json) — upgraded locality -> site. New coordinate 39.956667,-74.930556, the NRHP-listed farmstead at 128 Hooton Road (ref. 89000774, listed 1989-07-05), per Wikipedia’s Paulsdale infobox and the National Register of Historic Places listings for Burlington County (both citing the NRHP nomination). A same-session Nominatim lookup for the 800 block of Hooton Road corroborated the street. Previously pinned at the Mount Laurel town centroid.

  • Gabreil Daveis Tavern House, Glendora, Gloucester Township (gabreil-daveis-tavern-name-correction, entries-g-n.json) — upgraded locality -> site. New coordinate 39.837424,-75.060792, from the Wikipedia infobox for the building (landmark-type coordinate, NRHP-sourced). A previous plain-name Nominatim search failed under the misspelled title “Tavern-house”; the actual Wikipedia article title is “Gabreil Daveis Tavern House.” Previously pinned at the Gloucester Township centroid.

  • Dr. James Still Office, 209 Church Road, Medford (james-still-botanical-practitioner, entries-g-n.json) — upgraded locality -> site. New coordinate 39.915556,-74.824722, address and coordinate from the NRHP listing (ref. 95001190, listed 1995-11-03) as carried in the Wikipedia list of Burlington County NRHP listings. A same-session plain Nominatim name search for the building still returns nothing; the NRHP list is what supplied the address. Previously pinned at the Medford town centroid.

Corrected note (not a coordinate change)

  • Society Max the bull, Bayonne, 1963 (society-max-bayonne-bull, entries-o-z.json) — retried “Ninth Street and Kennedy Boulevard, Bayonne, New Jersey” against a now-responsive Nominatim; still no match. The record’s note blamed rate-limiting for the earlier failure; corrected the note to say this is a genuine no-match (intersection not in OSM), not a rate-limit artifact, so a future pass doesn’t keep re-trying it expecting a fluke.

Unchanged — retried, still unresolved (no source opened this session names a coordinate)

  • Red Lion Motel, Southampton (butler-harriet-servant-woman-1909, cohen, entries-a-f.json) — retried “Red Lion Motel, Route 206, Southampton Township, New Jersey” and “Red Lion, Southampton Township, New Jersey Route 206”; both empty. Left at the Red Lion locality/area pin.
  • 232 Center Street, Elizabeth (chimp-elizabeth-1926, entries-a-f.json) — retried “232 Center Street, Elizabeth, New Jersey,” “232 Center St, Elizabeth, NJ 07202,” and a structured street=/city=/state= query; all empty. Left at the Elizabeth town centroid.
  • West Papoose Swamp (carslake-charles-l-1933, entries-a-f.json) — retried “West Papoose Swamp, New Jersey”; empty. GNIS’s “Papoose Branch” stream point remains the best available basis.
  • Bodine Field (bodines-tavern-tuckerton-stage-road, entries-a-f.json) — retried “Bodine Field, Wharton State Forest, New Jersey”; empty. Left at the Oswego/Wading River forks confluence.
  • Knight-Pepper House, Tabernacle (knight-pepper-house-credit-records, entries-g-n.json) — retried “Knight-Pepper House, Tabernacle, New Jersey” and “Knight Pepper House Tabernacle Township New Jersey” on Nominatim; both empty. Also checked for a Wikipedia/NRHP entry under this name — none found (not in the Burlington County NRHP list). Left at the Tabernacle village point.
  • John Woolman Memorial, Mount Holly (john-woolman-mount-holly, entries-g-n.json) — retried “John Woolman Memorial, Mount Holly, New Jersey” and “Woolman Memorial Association Mount Holly” on Nominatim; both empty. Also checked Wikipedia (no article; search turned up unrelated results) and the Burlington County NRHP list (not present under this name). Left at the Mount Holly town point.
  • “Iricks Crossway,” between Tabernacle and Chatsworth, 1920 (paul-david-f-1920, entries-o-z.json) — retried “Iricks Crossway, Tabernacle, New Jersey” (empty) and “Irick, New Jersey” (matched only “Irick Road” in Westampton Township, ~30 km from the Tabernacle-Chatsworth corridor and clearly a different, unrelated Irick-family road). Left at the Tabernacle/Chatsworth midpoint area pin.
  • “Hundred Dollar Bridge Road” near Chatsworth, quicklime body, 1935 (quicklime-body-1935, entries-o-z.json) — retried “Hundred Dollar Bridge Road, Chatsworth, New Jersey” and “Hundred Dollar Bridge, Chatsworth, New Jersey”; both empty. Left at the wide Chatsworth-centered area pin.

Checked, no change needed

  • Coyle Field, Woodland Township (black-saturday-forest-fires-1963, entries-a-f.json) — already resolved to the actual Nominatim aerodrome feature (not a rate-limit casualty); left as-is.

Task 2 — locate previously unplaced names

All six ghost-town/furnace names and the three cemeteries were already present in forum-places.json (Calico, Hermann City, Martha Furnace, Mary Ann Forge, Quaker Bridge, Aetna Furnace), each sourced only to the uncross-checked maps.njpinebarrens.com data file, per the prior pass’s own note that “GNIS had no entry” for most of them. This round re-ran those lookups.

Corroborated (coordinate kept, basis strengthened)

  • Martha Furnace — matched USGS GNIS “Martha,” Populated Place, Burlington County (feature 878157, 39.6820631,-74.5104295), ~10 m from the existing pin. The prior pass missed this because it searched the literal phrase “Martha Furnace”; GNIS carries the place only as “Martha.”
  • Hermann City — matched GNIS “Herman,” Populated Place, Burlington County (feature 877058, 39.6176178,-74.5943221), ~230 m from the existing pin. Same cause of the earlier miss (GNIS has “Herman,” not “Hermann City”).
  • Aetna Furnace — matched OpenStreetMap Nominatim “Aetna Furnace Road, Warners Mill, Estell Manor, Atlantic County” (39.3084470,-74.8134950), ~330 m from the existing pin. Also confirmed this is unrelated to the Upper/Lower Aetna Lakes near Medford Lakes (39.85 N), a distinct pair of reservoirs about 60 km north that share only the name.
  • Calico — OpenStreetMap has “Calico Road (Batona Trail)” running through Martha and Harrisville, Bass River Township, 1.9-2.2 km from the existing pin — consistent with, but not precise enough to relocate, the map point. Basis note updated; coordinate unchanged.

Attempted, inconclusive — left untouched

  • Mary Ann Forge — the blurb’s landmark (a flume over Mount Misery Brook) is real and Nominatim-confirmed near Mount Misery, Woodland/Pemberton Townships, but several km from the existing pin and not specific enough to confirm or move it. Record left as-is.
  • Quaker Bridge — retried “Quaker Bridge, Wharton State Forest, New Jersey,” “Quaker Bridge Road, Woodland Township, New Jersey,” and an Overpass named-search near the existing pin; all empty or non-responsive. GNIS has no “Quaker Bridge” entry. Record left as-is on the njpb map pin.

Newly located — added to forum-places.json

  • Peacock Cemetery (Chairville cemetery), Medford — new record, precision site, 39.8992021,-74.7884916. Found via an Overpass API query for cemetery/grave_yard features near the GNIS “Chairville” populated-place point (39.8984473,-74.7890505): OpenStreetMap way 1087805807, tagged amenity=grave_yard, name=Peacock Cemetery, gnis:feature_id=879181, ~140 m from the Chairville point. Confirmed as the Chairville cemetery by this project’s own forum research notes (research/agents/njpb-forum.md: Chairville thread 11615, “the Peacock cemetery at Chairville was fenced c. 2013,” post 112817) — the prior Nominatim-only search for “Chairville Cemetery” had failed because the place is mapped under the family name “Peacock,” not “Chairville.”

Not locatable this round

  • Tabernacle cemetery — forum notes give two candidate names, “Jr. O.U.A.M. Cemetery” / “Junior Mechanics Cemetery,” Tabernacle (from Kell and Bakely obituary transcriptions in research/agents/njpb-forum.md). Retried Nominatim (“Junior Order United American Mechanics Cemetery, Tabernacle, New Jersey”; “OUAM Cemetery Tabernacle New Jersey”; “Junior Mechanics Cemetery Tabernacle New Jersey”) and an Overpass named-search for “Mechanic”/”OUAM” within 8 km of the Tabernacle village point — all empty. An Overpass cemetery/grave_yard sweep within 7 km turned up only “Pinelands Memorial Park,” a modern private cemetery unrelated to the historic Jr. O.U.A.M. ground. The existing tabernacle-winter-school-1815 area pin (“Old Tabernacle Cemetery area”) is left unchanged.
  • Green Bank cemetery — forum notes reference a “Green Bank Cemetery” burial (James H. Maxwell, 1920 census) but give no address. An Overpass cemetery/grave_yard sweep within 7 km of the GNIS Green Bank point found only “The Batsto-Pleasant Mills Cemetery,” ~7 km away in a different village, not a plausible match. No record added.
