Round five: households, labor and documentary history
Round five: households, labor and documentary history
Research checked September 7, 2026. Five distinct new entries. The 300-entry baseline and earlier source URLs were checked before writing. None of these underlying sources is used in an earlier entry. The narratives use conservative per-source budgets below 200 words, including ledes and source-limit notes; mirrors and excerpts do not receive independent allowances.
- roebling-worker-house-relief — Read the complete ACHP community history, New Jersey Historic Trust grant record and museum NEH announcement. The house supplies a specific connection among employment hierarchy, immigrant residence and food distribution during the Depression/strikes. Museum dates the house 1905; Trust says 1906. Retain disagreement; do not force resolution from the town’s founding date. Grant purposes are proposals, not evidence of completed restoration. Source notices disagree about numbers of house types; omit that unnecessary figure. No household ledger or relief register claimed read.
- alliance-colony-crystal-farm-diary — Read the Alliance Heritage Center colony and farming exhibits. Directly downloaded and visually inspected the full-resolution January 1–2 and October 5–8, 1941 manuscript images. Clear text supports egg packing, brooder-house moves, rain/mud interruption, roof work, help and concern about war. Avoid ambiguous building labels and guesses about people. Initial land terms are attributed to the center, which cites Stainsby; his original book was not retrieved. Diary excerpts supplied by David Goren according to the exhibit. Two spreads share a single manuscript-summary budget.
- seabrook-trial-leave-recruitment — Read Rutgers’s complete Invisible Restraints introduction and captions. Downloaded and inspected recruitment flyer image rutgers-lib:49419. Its visible English text distinguishes advanced outbound train fare from return fare after six months. Japanese text not independently translated. Caption identifies National Archives RG 210; the original archive folder was not examined. The flyer documents a recruiting promise, not fulfillment or an individual contract. Wider surveillance/discrimination interpretation remains attributed to Rutgers’s archival exhibition.
- port-republic-swing-bridge-record — Downloaded NJDOT’s 2,160-page bridge database; read and visually inspected printed p. 67, PDF p. 74, structure 01PR007. Capstan, central support, 23 approach spans, 1952 raising and 1985 truck-damage repair are explicit. Survey original work is 1991–1994, with modifications and a November 12, 2002 form footer. Read browser-accessible text of NJSPE’s June 27, 2024 awards program, PDF p. 26; direct download returned 403 and screenshot failed. Read full indexed county March 25, 2024 replacement announcement; direct fetch returned 403. New six-span girder crossing substantially completed September 22, 2023 according to the program. Avoid turning the old survey’s survival statement into a current claim. Distinct from the Route 9 Nacote Creek bridge. No claim that the full HAER record or final component disposition was inspected.
- greenwich-tea-burning-divided-record — Read the full Cumberland County commemorative history and downloaded complete OCR of Andrews’s 1908 Tea-Burners volume. Read printed pp. 12–13 and 22, separating civil damages from criminal grand-jury proceedings. Andrews reproduces a next-day Fithian diary account of disagreement, but explicitly admits it does not state personal participation. Reject simplified modern language implying a trial acquittal or a proven Fithian role. Original diary manuscript and court files were not inspected; these are quotations transmitted through a later commemorative book. No long direct quotations reproduced.
The five public pages link their sources adjacent to the relevant claims and identify access limits. They also link related existing entries. No source images were copied into the site’s asset collection.
