Existing cases and places, A–M: source audit

Research date: 2026-09-07. Five existing entries revised. Read the editorial policy and September 5 research notes before editing. Newly written summaries, no reproduced clippings, and no inference of shared perpetrators from a shared location.

Danielle Imbo and Richard Petrone

Entry: imbo-danielle-petrone-richard-2005-couple.html.

  • FBI feature, February 20, 2025: verified directly; adds the 2015 interagency expansion, nearly 300 interviews, records analysis and missed appointment.
  • FBI anniversary release, February 19, 2025: dated unresolved status and reward.
  • FBI poster: directly checked; vehicle wording qualified to match the official description.
  • Preserved the early AP digest as historical reporting and separated its reward figure from the later FBI offer. The Pine Barrens was a search area, not a confirmed destination. No suspect named or speculative local connection added.

Donald Caldwell and Steven Soden

Entry: hitchhiking-teens-1972-caldwell-and-soden.html.

  • Daily Herald, May 14, 2013: supports family comparison, additional testing and undetermined cause of death.
  • Removed the unverified precise DNA-submission year; accounts differ. Clarified that Gacy-related testing does not make Steven a Gacy victim.
  • The previously cited NJSP release at https://www.nj.gov/lps/njsp/news/pr051413.html failed retrieval. Doe Network 6123dmnj.html returned generic home-page content, not a usable case record. Neither failure demonstrates a case resolution.
  • Caldwell status now explicitly limited to the reviewed accounts. A current official missing-person record and original 1972 notices remain priorities. Family street addresses removed because they add little to the historical narrative.

Mary Ann Forge

Entry: ghost-of-mary-ann-forge.html.

  • Pinelands-hosted Fenwick Manor preservation plan, printed p. 16 / PDF p. 47: downloaded and extracted successfully after browser retrieval failed. Corrected the forge/furnace conflation and added ownership/product history.
  • HSP Forges and Furnaces finding aid, pp. 54–55: indexed text identifies 17 related volumes under Jones and Taylor papers, Collection 2037. Direct browser PDF retrieval failed; search indexing exposed the inventory. Manuscripts not inspected. Useful lead for workers, transactions and last operating date.
  • Naming and failed country-club chronology remain open. Do not confuse this New Jersey forge with similarly named Pennsylvania sites.

Giuseppe Mercurio / Antonio Schiavo

Entry: merchurio-giuseppe-atsion-1907.html.

  • NJPB forum historical account, September 9, 2023: verified the secondary provenance of the conviction story and exact newspaper lead.
  • The entry called the case solved while one paragraph said its verdict was absent. Changed the status to Homicide; Italian conviction reported and explained the level of verification.
  • Retrieve Courier-Post, April 23, 1908, p. 3, “Atsion Murderer Tried in Italy,” then locate an Italian judgment. Five-year sentence remains an attributed report. No repetition of the forum’s sensational prison-condition claims.
  • Arrest date discrepancy, January 2/22, remains unresolved. Shared bog ownership with the Rider case is geographic context only.

Craig Bender

Entry: bender-craig-1940.html.

  • Bend Bulletin, July 20, 1940, front page: newly located United Press account, two blimps and 400 volunteers. University-hosted primary newspaper OCR available.
  • Existing July/December parental-name and residence conflict retained, with a caution that syndicated repetition is not independent corroboration. Recovery explanation remains attributed to the father pending coroner records.

Other gaps reviewed without adding unverified claims

  • miller-woodburn-murderer-1942.html: trial result remains missing. Exact-name web searches produced no reliable legal record. Search Burlington criminal dockets and January–spring 1943 local papers next.
  • dorn-michael-1933-mob.html: original publication date remains unidentified; need clipping image/masthead before assigning a precise date or proven gang motive.
  • chattin-murders-1917-brooksbrae.html: existing sheriff-theory qualification is appropriate. A coroner/inquest finding, if surviving, is more valuable than another retelling. No new forensic or genealogical conclusions added.

Validation: edited entries parsed as HTML; each now has at least one direct external source link. Shared indexes and search/map data left to the coordinating agent.
